DENMARK: København metro authority Metroselskabet and KBH Metro Partner have formally signed the next contract for the operation and maintenance of lines M1 to M4. Metroselskabet said its ambition is to make the transition seamless so that passengers ‘continue to experience the metro as the familiar, reliable and efficient means of transport they depend on every day’. KBH Metro Partner is a joint venture of the Paris transport operator’s RATP Dev business and Singapore’s ComfortDelGro. The new contract valued at DKr17bn runs for 12 years from the expiry of the current agreement with Metro Service on September 28 2027, with an option to extend it by a further three years. Mobilisation A mobilisation and transition process will now take place in collaboration with Metro Service, which is owned by Milano municipal transport company ATM. Metroselskabet said Metro Service employees have developed a unique understanding of the technical systems and passengers’ needs, and retaining them and their expertise under the Danish Transfer of Undertakings Act will be essential to a successful transition and future development. The metro ‘is known for its high reliability and efficiency, and that comes with a responsibility’, said Søren Boysen, Director of Operations & Maintenance at Metroselskabet, on October 13. ‘The new contract gives us a strong foundation for further enhancing this high standard.’ KBH Metro Partner The selection of KBH Metro Partner followed a competitive tender process which attracted seven applications to prequalify, of which three were selected for detailed negotiations. KBH Metro Partner was selected on an overall assessment of price and quality. The joint venture partners have experience operating and maintaining metro systems in Singapore, Paris, Riyadh, Lyon and Doha. They also have experience of carrying out technical upgrades while maintaining day-to-day operations; citing the example of RATP’s modernisation of Paris Line 14, Metroselskabet said this will be important as it undertakes a comprehensive modernisation of lines M1 and M2 by 2035, including replacing the rolling stock and upgrading the signalling. Managing Director & Group CEO Cheng Siak Kian said ComfortDelGro ‘brings deep experience in delivering safe, reliable and customer-focused rail services’, and ‘together with RATP Dev, we look forward to combining our expertise in automated metro systems as well as network modernisation and renewal to support the continued success of the København metro’. RATP Dev CEO Hiba Farès said the immediate priority will be ‘to ensure a seamless transition while maintaining the high standards that passengers rely on every day’. Looking ahead, ‘we will draw on RATP Dev’s extensive experience in modernising complex metro systems, including major transformation programmes delivered while maintaining passenger services’.
